During the evenings of the first two days, you will apply what you’ve learned to your own business or organization with the help of Innovation Engineering coaches. At the end of the three days, you will have a whole new set of ideas and plans for implementation on your first day back to work.

Day 1 - Fundamental Tools

PURPOSE: To teach the Fundamentals of how to create, communicate and commercialize meaningfully unique ideas. At the end of the day - adult learners will feel some tension as they will have learned during the day that much of what they thought they knew is actually not right. The tension will become reduced as they continue forward.

Day 2 – Industrial Strength

PURPOSE: To teach Industrial Strength methods. The teaching builds on the foundation of fundamentals taught the day before. On Day 2 the teaching moves towards ideas to change and improve existing products or services and to create new offerings that customers are willing to pay more for.

Day 3 – Advanced Methods

At first I was fairly skeptical of the 3-day commitment it would take for so many folks from our company. I can tell you it’s been transformational in our view of the importance of innovation and how it will affect our ability to deliver interesting new products and great marketing in the future. — Joe Perrotto, President, Country Home Products, Inc.

Vermont Teddy Bear Company attended the Innovation Engineering Leadership Institute hosted by VMEC and we’ve applied the tools and methods learned to improve our new product development process. The IELI really drove home the importance of having “meaningfully unique” ideas that customers will pay more money to have. We learned that there are many methods besides traditional brainstorming that can be used to create ideas. We’ve used the new process and tools including mining for stimulus, free and forced association create tools, and “Fail Fast Fail Cheap” methods to develop prototypes and test the market for next year’s Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day products. VMEC has provided ongoing coaching and encouragement to our team as we continue to learn and apply new methods to increase sales and profitability of the Vermont Teddy Bear brand.  — Cathy Carlisle, Director of Manufacturing, Vermont Teddy Bear Company

We entered into the world of VMEC with their Innovation Engineering Leadership Institute, which highlighted our belief in the necessity of creativity in the marketplace. From hooking us up to a reporter who helped get the word out about Super Sized Cycles to working with us to find Vermont-based bicycle frame builders, each and every member of the VMEC staff has been extraordinarily positive and helpful. Our company partners with others all over the world, and never have I experienced a more committed group of people who cared about our success. The team at VMEC is extremely knowledgeable, upbeat, creative, intuitive, helpful, and willing to do whatever it takes for companies to grow and succeed. I'm very grateful that we
do business in a state that offers this kind of superior, easy-to-access support.  — Joan Denizot, President, Super Sized Cycles

I want to thank you for the training last week. As I said, it was well worth the time for the Rhino participants. We are committed to Innovation Engineering and utilizing the principles that Doug and VMEC presented.  We did learn many new things and also it was good to build on the foundation that we are working to institutionalize. Again, thanks for your efforts in putting this event together. — Ted Castle, President, Rhino Foods

I decided that attending the three-day event would be a good move - one that would potentially net us some new ideas and ways to approach our process.  It was that - and much more. — Linda Rossi, Assistant State Director, Vermont Small Business Development Center
