Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start the process of getting my company involved with this opportunity?
Simply click on (Register Now) or call VMEC at 802-728-1432 and they will give you the necessary information.

I have some products and technologies that I believe might be of interest to the DoD. How do I make the connection?
VMEC will help you populate a web-based database with all the necessary information about your company in order to match your capabilities with the needs of the DoD and its prime contractors.

Are there special opportunities for minority owned, woman owned, veteran owned, or HUB zone businesses?
Absolutely. DoD and many prime contractors have requirements to do business with companies certified in these areas. VMEC can give you more information about the different certifications and application processes, and will be helping DoD and Primes find companies that have been certified to meet their requirements. For more information, download the Certification Programs for Vermont Businesses.

My company's corporate headquarters is located outside of Vermont. Can I still participate in this Initiative?
Yes.

How will this program help a company achieve product diversification?
The VMEC staff of trained engineers will help companies identify their capabilities and depending on demand, may suggest diversification if the capability exists.

What is the vehicle for matching manufacturers with bid opportunities?
The primary vehicle for matching is a unique database of New England manufacturers that includes very specific company information relative to manufacturing capabilities and capacity. This web-based tool can be populated and maintained by the individual manufacturers in each state.

What kind of quality certifications will be necessary for a company to participate?
This will depend on the products being manufactured and may include such certifications as ISO 9000, QS 9000, but the possibility of teaming with other manufacturers that may already meet certification requirements provides opportunities to some smaller companies which may not have achieved certification on their own.

Can VMEC help me obtain required certifications and do whatever else is necessary to be able to successfully sell products to the DoD and primes?
Yes. VMEC can either provide the necessary assistance and training or refer you to a partner in the Vermont Defense Contracting Collaborative who can provide assistance.

What is the cost of participating in the Initiative?
There is no charge for a company to register to become a designated DoD supplier.

My company manufactures clothing. Are there opportunities for me?
The DoD purchases conventional office supplies, food, clothing and other general purpose goods, as well as specialized weaponry, ships and planes. Therefore, every manufacturer in Vermont may have the potential to participate in this vital market.
