What is the New England
Manufacturing Supply Chain (NEMSC)?

Small and medium-size manufacturers in New England can now participate directly in Department of Defense (DoD) procurement opportunities in ways that may not have been previously available, while current defense suppliers can expand their production capacity and gain access to larger contracts.

New England, once known as the “Arsenal of America,” provided a major share of materiel consumed by the armed forces of the United States. That role has been eroded and manufacturing capacity has diminished, but the need for reliable domestic sources that can deliver product along a shortened supply chain is greater than ever. VMEC has joined with the other five New England Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Centers in an effort to restore the region to its historical role.

Manufacturers that choose to participate in the NEMSC enter information about their technical capabilities and capacity into a database called SupplyPoint™. This information is used to match suppliers with procurement opportunities presented by DoD agencies and by defense industry prime contractors.

Participation is free, the registration process is easy, and the potential benefits are enormous.

“We have attended the Lean 101 and Making Sense of Defense workshops. The VMEC staff and workshops are great. More of our staff will be attending. We tried it and it worked for us.”
